It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our third Trevor / Bowen Summer School. The economic environment has changed significantly since our last school: the literary world may help us, in a small way, to understand the processes of change so manifest in our time. Both Bowen and Trevor lived through times of crisis and war and
this experience is apparent, at different levels, in their work. Our varied programme includes a lecture from Bowen’s biographer, Victoria Glendinning, and will offer some further insights on Bowen’s life and times and on her experience of wartime London. Distinguished film director, Pat O’Connor, will deal with the cinematic treatment of one of Trevor’s works by introducing a showing of The Ballroom of Romance.

We are delighted to welcome all our other speakers and contributors – Chani Anderson, Cláir Ni Aonghusa, Hilary Lennon, Vincent McDonnell, Jim McKeon, Ulick O’Connor and John Quinn. We particularly welcome locally- born writer and activist, Maura Richards (O’Dea) who will speak of her journey from “St Fanahan’s Well in Mitchelstown to her present home in Tunbridge Wells”. We extend a warm welcome to our visitors who, we hope, will enjoy our
programme.
