TREVOR / BOWEN LITERARY SUMMER SCHOOL 2012
The William Trevor/ Elizabeth Bowen Literary Festival commenced in 2007 when sponsorship funds were made available by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to enable the project be initiated. For the past couple of years the event has been run without any main sponsor or grants.
Almedia Website & Graphic Design, Mitchelstown has been a partner from the outset.
During the past 5 years, we have succeeded in bringing some of the best known writers and literary academics, from within the country and from abroad, to speak at the event including Victoria Glendinning, Julian Gough, Maurice Harmon, Billy Keane, Phyllis Lassner, Dolores MacKenna, Ulick O'Connor, Bernard O'Donoghue, Donncha O'Dulaing and Eibhear Walshe.Sr. Margaret MacCurtain, Susan Osborn and Clair Wills were our main speakers last year and Cormac MacConnell did a wonderful job as M.C. on the opening night.
Some of our contributors, over the years, were either born locally or their parents were from the Town. In this category were Tom Aherne, Gerald Kean, Maudie Richards and Louis McRedmond, R.I.P.
We are currently finalising our literary events for the 2012 event and hope to have the programme in place and available on this site by the end of February 2012.
This year's event will take place on the weekend of 20th July to 22nd July 2012 inclusive. The only certainty about this year's event, to date, is that we have enlisted the services of John MacKenna and Mary O'Donnell to facilitate our short story writing workshops and we are currently taking bookings for both workshops.
